Seattle’s covered Kingdome stadium opened March 27, 1976, with a grand celebration featuring some 7,000 participants. Twenty-one of the region’s ethnic organizations participated in the event, including the Tokiwa-kai Japanese classical and folk dance group of Seattle.

Here, with their parasols and whirling fabric, members of Tokiwa-kai rehearse for their big performance at the Kingdome.
