New transit bus on East Madison Street, Seattle, February 11, 1949

In this image Seattle Transit System's (later Metro Transit) first diesel-hydraulic motor bus does a test run up the steep East Madison Street hill. The 40-seat bus could accommodate up to 60 standing passengers, and required no gear-shifting by the driver.
