An investment in Ray's Boathouse led former stockbroker Duke Moscrip to open his first Duke's Chowder House in 1977 in Lower Queen Anne. Famous for their clam chowder, the Duke's chain has expanded throughout the Northwest.

In this image Robert Wolbert blasts away the blue and white checkerboard on the sidewalk outside Duke's restaurant at 236 First Ave. in Lower Queen Anne. The paint had been declared illegal by the city.
