Dick Spady (1923-2016) and two partners opened their first Dick’s Drive-In Restaurant on 45th Street in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood on January 28, 1954. The popular drive-in focused on hamburgers, french fries, and milkshakes. By 1974, there were five Dick’s Drive-Ins, with an Edmonds drive-in added in 2011.

Here, at a busy hour, walk-up and drive-in customers surround the original Dick’s Drive-In in Wallingford.
