The Seattle Post-Intelligencer was founded in 1863 as the weekly Seattle Gazette, and was long one of the city's two daily newspapers, along with The Seattle Times, until it became an online-only publication on March 18, 2009. In the mid-1940s, the newspaper held a nationwide design competition for a new building at Sixth Avenue and Wall Street in downtown Seattle.

This image was taken during the removal of the newspaper's typesetting machine by crane from the old building at Sixth Avenue and Pine Street.
