In November 1964 the Pike Place Market branch of the National Bank of Commerce was robbed of $870 by a man carrying a small pistol. Six days later Seattle Police officers investigating Charles Walter Endicott (b. 1938) for illegal possession of narcotics arrested him for the robbery as well. Endicott, who identified himself as an unemployed salesman, later plead guilty to the robbery and was sentenced to a three-month psychiatric study followed by a possible 20 years in prison.
