Nebraska-born George Fausbol Horluck (1901-1975) came to Seattle with his parents and siblings before 1910. Beginning with the purchase of a number of ice cream parlors, Horluck Creameries, Inc., soon gained enough profit that George and his father, Hans Jorgen Horluck (1863-1933), formed their Horluck Investment Company with a starting capital of $99,000. Seeing a new opportunity with the end of Prohibition, George opened Horluck Malt & Brew (later Horluck Brewing Co.) in 1933. He sold the brewery to Sick's Century Brewery in 1939, and later was president of both the Industrial Finance Co. and Puget Concessions.

This image of the brewery's exterior was taken at 606 Westlake Street North, at the corner of what is now Westlake Avenue North and Mercer Street. The brewery produced a number of brands including: White and Gold, a Belfast type-Imperial Ale, and Horluck's Vienna-style Draught, their most popular product, introduced in May of 1935.
