Built in 1901 and 1905, respectively, Pier 62 and Pier 63 (originally Pier 10, also Holden Dock, Virginia Dock, or Virginia Street Dock) join together to span nearly two acres on the Seattle waterfront. A thriving ocean terminal before World War II, by the mid-1980s the piers were in disrepair and became part of city plans to revive the central waterfront.

This image of Pier 62 and Pier 63 was taken facing east during the time in which city and port officials were asking locals to vote on a levy that would pay for redevelopment of the central waterfront. The plans to build a maritime center at Pier 63 failed, and instead the city used the piers for the popular Summer Nights at the Pier concert series from 1991-2004.
