On May 28, 1937 passenger and automobile ferry service ceased on Puget Sound due to a union strike over labor disputes with the Washington Shipowners' Association. Twenty-five ferries were tied up during the 28-day strike, which ended after Washington State Governor Clarence D. Martin interceded.
