Order an ImageThe Seattle Nichiren Buddhist Church was formed in 1914 by a devout group of immigrants from Japan. Since 1929 the church has been located in Seattle's Chinatown - International District neighborhood, at 1042 South Weller Street.
In this image, Mrs. Sumio Taki attempts to get her daughter Lori to face forward for a group picture during celebrations for the church's 50th anniversary. The children, wearing traditional costumes, participated in a festive procession called an O-chigo.
