In this image, volunteers removed weeds, brush, and grass from nine houses on the 1200 block of 15th Avenue East on Capitol Hill which had been vacant for eight years. Plans by Parkridge Development to tear the houses down and build a 50-unit apartment building at the site had been delayed by a zoning dispute and the properties had become an eyesore. The cleanup effort was organized by local resident Peter Grimm, assisted by the Capitol Hill Community Council, and city Councilmen George Benson, Paul Kraable, and John Miller.

The sign in the yard reads, "The clean-up of these houses is a community effort; Bring your tools and your neighbors, Saturday, June 14, 1975."
