Block party protesting development, Seattle, August 28, 1977

Order an Image
In this image, spectators and dancers enjoy music provided by the Maraire Marimba Ensemble at a block party on 13th Avenue East between E. Republican Street and E. Mercer Street in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. The house behind the band at 516 13th Avenue E. is one of the older housing units that developers wanted to tear down and replace with an 18-story condo building. The block party, attended by more than 200 people, was held to protest the development plans.
