Begun in 1971, Seattle's Bumbershoot is one of North America’s largest urban arts festivals, held annually over Labor Day weekend at the Seattle Center.

In this image, Seattle councilwoman Phyllis Lamphere, right, dances with Bill Earl of the Renaissance dancers at the IBM Plaza. The Seattle Brass Ensemble, singers, and dancers traveled from downtown to the Seattle Center to officially open that year's free 10-day festival.
