Order an Image
Many Norwegians settled in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood, and the community has celebrated Norway's Constitution Day (May 17th, or Syttende Mai), since 1889. Thousands line Market Street for the annual parade.

Here, six-year-old Karashawn Schmidt and her sister, four-year-old Shannon Schmidt, celebrate Syttende Mai in 1981.
