Order an ImageIn early May of 1971 several anti-war protests were organized by the Seattle Coalition for Peace and Justice. On May 5 about 2,000 demonstrators marched through downtown Seattle, and on May 7 demonstrators marched along Fifth Avenue, passing the U. S. Federal Courthouse at 1010 5th Avenue before they were scattered by Seattle Police Tactical squads.
In this image police officers stand in front of the Courthouse building at one of the May protests, wearing riot helmets with tear-gas shields and carrying nightsticks; protesters can be seen congregating beyond.
