Marchers on Denny Way protesting lack of jobs for minorities, Seattle, December 14, 1969
Order an ImageOn Sunday, December 14, 1969, the Central Area Civil Rights Committee sponsored a March Against Underemployment of Minorities. Nearly 3,000 people walked from five Central Area churches to the Seattle Center Arena for a rally with comedian and activist Dick Gregory. The Seattle Urban League, the Seattle Council of Churches and other church, civic, and social organizations endorsed and participated in the march and rally. In this image, marchers walk west along Denny Way towards Seattle Center.
