In this image Lawney Reyes stands next to one of his sculptures, a cedar bald eagle, in front of the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center in Seattle's Discovery Park. The sculpture was selected to be auctioned at a fundraising party for the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation on September 29, 1977 at the Center. In an interview regarding his work, Mr. Reyes said, "I believed that Americans in general don't appreciate Indian art or realize its potential impact... Indian art is not rough, undeveloped or unfinished. The artist has broken his subject down into its purest geometric form. There are no cheap embellishments. Anything that is not important is eliminated."
