At monthly "Sunday of Concern" meetings, representatives of 40 Central Area organizations got together to discuss problems in the district. In this photograph (left to right) Edwin T. Edwin Pratt, a civil rights leader who championed equal housing and school desegregation, and spoke out against discriminatory hiring practices in the construction industry, was assassinated outside his home in Shoreline on January 26, 1969. Robert Williams served as intergroup relations assistant to Seattle school superintendent in the late 1960s, and later became the assistant desegregation director at Seattle Public Schools. James E. McIver was the first African American to serve as an attorney with the Washington State Attorney General’s Office, and was a founding member and leading proponent of the Loren Miller Bar Association. McIver also served as President of the Seattle branch of the NAACP.
