Marie's Cafe was founded in the early 1940s in Seattle's Greenwood neighborhood. A successful restaurant for several decades, retail sale of salad dressings developed in the cafe eventually took over the business. Today, Marie's Salad Dressing is a nationally-distributed brand owned by Dean Foods Co.

In this image picketers outside Marie's Cafe at Northwest 85th and Greenwood demonstrate support of cafe employees on strike after new owners discontinued their union affiliation and health and pension benefits. The rally was organized by the Seattle Coalition of Labor Union Women to coincide with Women's Day, and attended by local members of various unions. By this time, Marie Nordquist (1910-2008), original owner of the cafe, had long since retired.
