Order an Image
The Seattle Housing Authority's Better Yards Roundup contest awarded prizes each September for the most attractive yards in its four public housing communities. This photo shows the winners of the 13th annual Better Yards Roundup in 1967, the Walter Wilson family. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson and their four children, Reginald, Cynthia, Patricia, and Lionel, receive a trophy from Dick Barney, the manager of Yesler Terrace. According to the newspaper caption, the Wilson's yard helped Yesler Terrace win top prize among the SHA's four communities, which also included Holly Park, High Point, and Rainier Vista. The annual award was co-sponsored by the Snoqualmie District Federation of Garden Clubs.
