Central Area representatives at press conference, July 3, 1968
Order an ImageOn July 3, 1968, representatives from a number of Central District organizations held a press conference to address rock-throwing incidents in the area. They urged the youths involved to air their grievances in a more positive and effective way, and to join Central Area organizations to help bring about the change they seek.
This photo shows five of the Central Area representatives who attended the press conference. Left to right: Michael Ross, Seattle CORE; Bruce Hayes, Black Panther Party; Charles Johnson, Central Area Civil Rights Committee; Chester Northington, Black Panther Party; and Walter Hundley, director of the Model Cities Program. They were later joined by George Clark of the Central Area Motivational Program.
