Some 200 motorcycle riders participated in the 11th Annual Heart Fund Benefit Motorcycle Ride in February 1972. Each paid two dollars to ride from the Garfield Street Bridge in Seattle through Woodinville and Bothell to Lynnwood, and back. Riders picked up playing cards at certain stops, and three then won trophies for the best poker hand. With additional fundraising that day, riders raised $500 for the Heart Fund. At the time, local motorcycle groups were trying to counteract Marlon Brando’s 1954 “Wild One” gangster movie image.
