Order an ImageIn this image Tom Plant, senior construction inspector for Metro Transit, stands at the portal of the West bus tunnel as it enters the underground Pioneer Square station. This view is looking north under 3rd Avenue. The Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel (Metro Bus Tunnel) is a 1.3-mile-long public transit tunnel that runs underneath downtown Seattle. Constructed between 1987-1990, the $455 million tunnel originally built for buses was updated to include light rail access in 2009.
