Order an ImageJanet Joy "Yet-Si-Blue" (Renecker) McCloud (1934-2003) was a Tulalip tribe member and an Indian activist who was prominent in the "fish wars" that led to the Boldt Decision, a federal ruling guaranteeing Washington tribes half the state's salmon and catch.
In this image Janet McCloud speaks at one of a series of protests and press conferences organized in support of comedian and civil-rights activist Dick Gregory, who was serving a 90-day sentence in Thurston County Jail for participation in a 1967 "fish-in" on the Nisqually River to protest state laws restricting Native American rights.
