Marjorie (Macklen) Jones (1892-1987) was a prominent social services activist in Seattle, and was married to Robert M. Jones (1882-1954), a long-time King County Superior Court judge. Ms. Jones was named to the state's first committee on aging in the 1930s, established the statewide Friendly Visiting Service to help the elderly, and organized day care for women who went to work during World War II. She also served on the state Board Against Discrimination, helped found the Theodora Home, getting the first federal loan to build the home for senior citizens, and was active in Volunteers of America. Ms. Jones was an advisory committee member under President Dwight Eisenhower for the first White House Conference on Aging; president of Hamilton House, Seattle's first senior center, and founder of Evergreen Clubs, social groups for the elderly. She also helped train Junior League members to be volunteers.

This image portrait of Marjorie Jones was taken about the time she was named the Seattle-King County Senior Citizen of the Year by the Council on Aging Office. Candidates were nominated by clubs and organizations throughout the county and were required to be at least 70 years old, have lived in the county for the previous five years, and to be currently serving society in some way.
