In this image Tacoma-born author Frank Herbert (1920-1986) sits at his desk in a loft above the kitchen of his Port Townsend home. Though Herbert became famous for writing science fiction, he was also a newspaper journalist, photographer, short story writer, book reviewer, ecological consultant, and university lecturer. Herbert was a reporter for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer from 1969 to 1972.
