Order an ImageIn this image, activist Kathy Wright holds a sign reading "Gay and Proud" while waiting for the start of the "Stonewall Rebellion 1981 Lesbian/Gay Freedom March" outside the federal Courthouse in downtown Seattle. About 1,500 demonstrators participated in the event, criticizing leaders of the country's "Moral Majority" for their conservatism, which marchers said strikes as such fundamentals as jobs, pay, housing, and life-style.
