Order an ImageMicrosoft, a multinational technology company with headquarters in Redmond, Washington, was founded by Bill Gates and Paul Allen in 1975 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The company moved to Bellevue, Washington in 1979 and incorporated in 1981. The company has grown to become the world's largest software maker and a leader in cloud enterprise technology.
In 1986, Microsoft moved its headquarters from Bellevue, Washington, to a 30-acre lot in nearby Redmond with six buildings and a pond that came to be called “Lake Bill,” after Bill Gates. Microsoft expanded the facility in 1992 to 260 acres and 1.7 million square feet of office space. It eventually grew to 125 buildings with 15 million square feet on 500-plus acres.
