Gertrude Frazee (1898-1984) referred to herself as “an activist for equality.” She helped found the Seattle Gray Panther network and the Equal Defense Alliance, and worked for many other organizations seeking equality for women and older persons, such as the National Organization for Women (NOW), the American Association of Retired Persons, the Older Women’s League, the Women’s Alliance and more. In 1982, she was honored by the Washington State NOW chapter as one of 10 senior activists who contributed most to the campaign for human equality, and in 1983 she received the Human Rights Award of the Seattle Chapter of the United Nations Association.
