Until the 1990s, Seattle was a thriving apparel-manufacturing center, and enjoyed a reputation as the nation's leader in outerwear, eventually losing business and jobs to cheap overseas labor.
In this promotional image from Roffe, Inc., a model poses in the Seattle ski wear company's latest designs, the "Ron" overalls, and the "Harley" parka. From 1953-1996 the company founded by Sam Roffe (1909-1994) operated as one of the largest stretch ski-pants-manufacturing factories in the United States, even outfitting the 1960 U.S. Olympic Alpine Ski Team.
