After the U.S. bombing of Baghdad in January 1991, Seattle activists called for anti-war demonstrations. Some protestors held a vigil at the Federal Building; others marched northwards to a rally at Westlake. Still others marched onto Interstate 5 where they sat on the highway for a short while, blocking traffic during the early rush hour.

This image from the Denny Street bridge was taken around 3:00pm, shortly after the sit-in. A tightly packed row of police cars in the northbound lane (upper left, under first bridge) eventually moved the protestors northwards towards the Stewart Street exit ramp.
