A group known as "Operation Homestead" sponsored the occupation of the building, closed by the state in 1987, to protest the steady decline of low-income housing in downtown Seattle. An unidentified police officer stands on the street in front of the building, and a poster for Spike Lee's film, "Do the Right Thing," hangs from a boarded-up window.
