Anti-apartheid demonstrators protesting at South African consulate, Seattle, January 23, 1985
Order an ImageBeginning in October 1984, a series of demonstrations were held outside the home of the honorary South African consul in Madison Park to protest the South African government's polices of racial segregation known as apartheid. Though the protest shown here was orderly and non-violent, police arrested 58 of the approximately 1,000 demonstrators on criminal trespass charges.
