Order an ImageFrango mints are a brand of chocolate truffles first created for the Frederick & Nelson department stores in 1918. Marshall Field's bought F&N in 1929 and a new Frango recipe was created for sale in the midwest. In the Northwest, Frango chocolates are sold by Macy's in various flavors using the original recipes, logo, and distinctive hexagonal boxes.
In this image Paula Hance and another employee straighten Frangos coming off the assembly line before they are packaged. At the time the photo was taken the candies were made on the 10th floor of Frederick & Nelson's flagship Pine Street store, just as they had been for decades.
