Painter and muralist Kenneth Callahan (1905-1986) was one of the defining artists of the "Northwest School," an art movement which combined natural elements of the Puget Sound area with traditional Asian aesthetics to create a novel and distinct regional style.

Here, Callahan stands with his wife Beth and a group of his paintings. Judging by its date, the image is likely related to "Universal Voyage", a 1973 retrospective exhibition of Callahan's work at the Henry Gallery, University of Washington.
