The child of wealthy Seattle pioneers, Dorothy Stimson Bullitt (1892-1989), bought a small Seattle radio station in 1947 and expanded into a broadcasting empire, King Broadcasting Company. She was a Seattle civic leader who entered the business world at a time when women were not welcome. All three of her children have donated substantial amounts of money and time to the Bullitt Foundation, founded by Dorothy in 1952 with a mission to protect the natural environment of the Pacific Northwest, and to other charitable organizations and causes.
In this image Dorothy's daughters, Priscilla "Patsy" Bullitt Collins (1920-2003) and Harriet Overton Bullitt (1924-), announce plans to purchase KING-AM and FM radio stations.
