The daughter of Alexander Scott Bullitt (1877-1932) and Dorothy Stimson Bullitt (1892-1989), Harriet Overton Bullitt (1924-) is a descendant of wealthy Seattle pioneers and civic leaders. Harriet and her siblings have donated substantial amounts of money and time to the Bullitt Foundation, founded by Dorothy in 1952 with a mission to protect the natural environment of the Pacific Northwest, and to other charitable organizations and causes. In the 1990s, Harriet started Sleeping Lady Conference and Retreat Center near Leavenworth, and a radio broadcasting company with stations in Chelan and Leavenworth.
This photo shows Harriet Bullitt looking down Hell's Canyon on the Snake River, as part of a three-day trip by the staff and trustees of the Bullitt Foundation to determine the foundation's level of support for preservation efforts.
