Cris Bruch is an artist who lives and works on Vashon Island. His work has been shown across the United States and he has been commissioned to build public art sculptures for the University of Washington, North Seattle College, and Sound Transit, among others. Bruch has received several awards for his work, including a Northwest Major Works Award, the Betty Bowen Memorial Award, and the James W. Ray Venture Project Award. Bruch also won the Neddy Artist Award for visual artists in Washington State in 2001.

This image shows Bruch working on his piece "Crusade" as part of a public art festival called "In Public: Seattle 1991." "In Public" comprised works from 25 participating artists that were exhibited in public places across the city center. Bruch constructed his piece on the unfinished Lenora Street overpass near Western Avenue. Here, Bruch is laying an arrangement of items of clothing on the ground. The installation also included small scultures, a flooded pool, and a large mirrored barrier at the end of the bridge.
