Father teaching his daughter to ride a bicycle, Seattle, June 18, 1989

Order an Image
From April through September, Seattle’s Lake Washington Boulevard has often been closed to cars for Bicycle Sundays. In 1989, the event took place on Father’s Day. Here, Mike Boze, and his daughter Elizabeth, take advantage of the closed boulevard for a bike lesson. At four-and-a-half, Elizabeth is steadied by her father’s hand and the bike’s training wheels.
