Some 200 bicyclists from several cycling clubs and environmental groups staged a protest ride in early October 1970. Leaving the University of Washington, they rode through rush hour traffic to Westlake Mall (now Westlake Center) in downtown Seattle where they held a rally. They were protesting car traffic and promoting bike lanes and mass transit.
