Order an ImageThe lack of cycling paths and bike lanes on Mercer Island led a large group of cyclists, mostly young people, to protest by taking their bicycles to the main streets. They started at the south end of the island. By the time they reached the business district, the group numbered over 200 cyclists. They urged bike lanes to be part of road building.
Here, cyclists follow a sheriff’s car as they protest in favor of bike paths. The photograph is marked up with instructions for the final page layout.
