Bailey-Boushay House in Seattle was named after Thatcher Bailey and his partner Frank Boushay, who died of AIDS in 1989. The facility was established in 1992 as a place where people with AIDS could find compassionate care and a way to live their last days with dignity. Today, Bailey-Boushay continues to serve AIDS/HIV patients as well as those with other chronic illnesses such as ALS.
In this photo, Swedish Hospital nurses Margo Bykonen, left, Laura Manke, center, and Jeannie Schork tour the facilities of the new Bailey-Boushay House, where they will be referring patients. The nurses are shown here in the building's greenhouse, which will be used for horticultural therapy as well as recreation.
