Guy Anderson in his studio with mural design, LaConner, August 16, 1968
Order an ImagePainter Guy Anderson (1906-1998) was one of the defining artists of the "Northwest School," an art movement which combined natural elements of the Puget Sound area with traditional Asian aesthetics to create a novel and distinct regional style that was different from traditional Northwest Native American art forms, which had been long recognized as "northwest art."
Here, in the spring of 1968, Anderson stands in his LaConner, WA studio in front of his design for a mosaic mural. Given the date of the photograph, this is likely the paving mural he designed for Seattle First National Bank's new skyscraper at Fourth Avenue and Madison Street in downtown Seattle, which opened the following year.
