The Ben Franklin Electric Company's "No. 1" store was located at the corner of First Avenue and Union Street in downtown Seattle. Starting in the early 1920s, Ben Franklin supplied Seattle residents with a growing variety of electrical appliances, from washing machines to refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, and more.
Here, company manager Rolland B. Condon (right) shows off a new Haag washer, while the sales staff promotes other appliances and drivers sit in company vans. A window ad for vacuum cleaners proclaims "1/5 of most house wives time is spent chasing dirt."
