The Winona, 1910

Order an Image
The 36-foot sloop Winona was built by N.J. Blanchard in a carriage house behind the family home when he was in his early 20s. Drawn on a horse-drawn dray from the house to the pier, the Winona was launched in May 1907. Blanchard courted his future wife, Millicent Norton, on the Winona, and the couple sailed the boat to Olympia and back for their honeymoon in 1910.
