Captain Lynn Hilbert Campbell (1911-2013) moved to Seattle during the Depression, where he worked on a freighter between Seattle and Alaska. According to his obituary, after World War II, Mr. Campbell started a tugboat business in Elliott Bay. In 1949, he formed the Spring Street Water Taxi company, which ferried crews and supplies out to ships anchored in Puget Sound. Three years later, he started offering harbor tours to visitors and his company, Seattle Harbor Tours, helped develop the city's tourist trade, particularly on what had been a working waterfront until that time. When he retired in 1990, Mr. Campbell sold the company, which was then renamed Argosy Cruises. The company, as of 2019, owns nine boats and continues to run tours around Puget Sound from Pier 55 on the Seattle waterfront.
The brochure pictured here features a map of Elliott Bay and images of some of the sights one would see on a Seattle Harbor Tours trip. At the time of printing, the one hour trips cost $1.50 for adults, and the trips ran seven days a week from June-August.
