Looking into Tunnel B, 1901
Order an ImageDavid Denny and members of his family owned several mining claims at Gold Creek, below Snoqualmie Pass, on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains. In 1901, Lawrence Denny Lindsley snapped this photograph of his uncle Victor Winfield Scott Denny (known as Win) inside Tunnel B in one of the Denny mines. They were apparently setting powder explosives to drive the tunnel deeper.
Notes on the back of the photograph read: "Uncle Win holding watch and turning exposure. Together we drove about 250 feet....I pulled Uncle Win out of this tunnel as he was overcome by powder smoke. Then we changed to electric blasting."
