Redmond’s annual Bicycle Derby took place on a sunny Sunday. While adults pedaled around Lake Sammamish, youngsters raced on local streets.

Here, a young cyclist, possibly four-year-old winner Larry Lindahl of Kirkland, bites his tongue as he heads toward the finish line in the Boys’ Sweepstakes Tricycle Derby Championship race. His competitors ranged in age from two and a half to five years old. After the race, he told the press that he had been training for a week on his family’s gravel driveway.
