Order an ImageOn March 7, 1964, supporters of the proposed open housing ordinance marched from four staging areas to converge on Westlake Mall for a rally to generate enthusiasm for the ordinance in the upcoming election. The open housing ordinance against racial discrimination in home sales and rentals was rejected by Seattle voters on March 10, 1964 by a margin of nearly 2 to 1.
