A peaceful rally in support of imprisoned Black Panther leader Huey Newton was held at the Federal Courthouse in Seattle on May 1, 1969. Members of the Black Panther Party and Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) demanded that Newton be released from prison. Other organizations represented at the rally included the University of Washington Black Student Union, the Young Socialists Alliance, and the Seattle Community College SDS.
